Istanbul is a magical city to visit, a dream destination, filled with mystery, culture and the exciting mix of East meeting West. Or go for a hostel, where you can often self-cater, thus cutting the cost, and you will meet other travellers. Which ever kind of accommodation you choose, check the location. Use a good map to decide where you want to be, East or West for a start. The two halves have very different atmospheres. Likewise decide if you want to be in the centre of the city, close to restaurants, bars, clubs and shops. Or you could choose to be more on the outskirts, where it will be a bit quieter. You can hire a car, there are budget offers for this, although yopu may find driving in Istanbul a bit hair-raising! So you could opt for public transport and taxis, which might prove a less stessfull way of getting about.
