Where to find Backpack Hostels in Bangkok
Thailand’s capital city has a lot to offer all types of travellers, even those that are on a shoestring budget. The cost of travel, food and other essentials is particularly cheap here, making it possible to explore all that the city has to offer and get by on very little.
Most of the main backpack hostels Bangkok can be found in the district of Banglampu. This district is home to the infamous hippy have of Khaosan Road and its sister streets. There is a huge number of cheap and cheerful backpacker hostels to be found here, and visitors who touch down here are sure to find somewhere to stay without too much trouble.
There are also some good backpacker hostels located on Soi Rambhutri, which runs parallel to Khaosan Road and just over the main intersection. This area tends to be slightly quitter than Khaosan Road, which is ideal for people who are recovering from jetlag and want to get a good night’s sleep.
Finding backpacker hostels in Bangkok outside of Bangkok is slightly trickier, but there are still a few good options available for people who know where to look. Located just across the river from the heart of the city in the Pinklao district is The Overstay. This interesting establishment is owned by a Bohemian Westerner and particularly aimed at expats and travellers.
The Overstay offers a wide range of different types of accommodation such as dorm rooms, cheap and basic private rooms and hammocks. Backpackers who are short on cash are welcome to pitch a tent on the roof or stay on one of the sofas for free in exchange for performing tasks such as working behind the bar or sweeping the floor.
Some other areas of Bangkok where backpacker hostels can be found include Victory Monument and Asok. Cheap accommodation can also be found in many of the university districts of the city. Many places that usually cater to exchange students are also open to backpackers on request and this type of accommodation is very affordable.
